Their words still ring true.
For most of us, there are days when we wake up and ask, “Why is life so challenging? When will life be better? How did this happen?”
Unfortunately for most, these type of questions compound feelings of dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and a sense of being out of control. They tend to hinder growth instead of support it. These powerful quotes encourage us to look at our worlds differently and empower us to change our limiting beliefs as we move through life. See if any of these resonate with you.
1. “You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” — Maya Angelou
This quote by the late great Maya Angelou is a reminder that in life there will be disappointments, losses, defeats but that each of them can strengthen us to become who we are meant to be. If you think about your life right now and about the difficult moments you have been through, truth is, you are still standing.
This demonstrates your strength and the greatness inside of you waiting to be unlocked.
2. “The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his future by merely changing his attitude.” — Oprah Winfrey
The wonderful Oprah Winfrey quoted this and it is what I call a simple truth. Attitude is a game changer. By adjusting our attitude, we change the course of our lives. It may not be an immediate change but it will change. Learning to develop a positive attitude and applying it to our behaviours is one of the best things we can do if we are serious about creating the life we desire.
3. “We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change.” — Sheryl Sandberg
A quote provided by the much celebrated Sheryl Sandberg. Most people fear change, but it is a requirement for growth. And when we are actively seeking change in our lives, we must first become aware of the things that need to change instead of randomly changing things in the hope it will make a difference.
Maybe an attitude adjustment is required, maybe a new circle of ‘friends’, it could be a string of poor habits that need attention or an increase in self-belief. By raising your awareness (of self, others, life) you will begin to see the choices you can make to change your life.
4. “Making mistakes is the art of discovery!” — H.M Queen Rania Al Abdullah
H.M Queen Rania Al Abdullah brought this quote to the table and I love it! To think we can go through life without making mistakes is crazy. There are too many hours in a day, week, month & year for that to be the case. So instead of beating ourselves up when we make a mistake, we need to look at it and seek the lesson. Every situation teaches us something but we have to be willing to look at it without blame and self-hatred to get it.
Discover who you are and your true potential through your mistakes.
5. “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one come to you without leaving happier.” — Mother Teresa
Who else but the gracious and loving Mother Teresa could come up with this one? Love is a gift that we all have the capacity to spread. Whether it’s a family member, the person in your local store, colleagues at work, the homeless person on the street, we can demonstrate love with simple gestures and words, through compassion and empathy. Gestures of love do not have to be grandiose, they can include a smile, a heartfelt thank you, an embrace.
These gestures not only touch others but they also leave you feeling more connected and more thankful. Your love can change lives.
6. “Nothing is impossible. The word itself says I’m possible!” — Audrey Hepburn
Okay, I had to squeeze in this one from the beautiful Audrey Hepburn. When we decide not to live in a defeated state, that our best attitude is the best option, that increasing our awareness will prepare us for change, that making mistakes is part of the journey and spreading love & happiness keeps us connected, we will be better positioned to feel all things are possible. We won’t always know the ‘how’ but through the power of belief, we will find a way.
