Expel Procrastination!

on

You wake up, today’s the day you are going to take on the world, you are going to make post-it-notes-1284667_640your mark and be all that you are meant to be…

But hold on, you’ve got to prepare breakfast, do the washing, drop the kids to school or make your way to the office. In fact whilst you hear the voice of action calling you, there just happens to be more than one voice and sorry, the one that shouts loudest wins!

Welcome to the world of procrastination! With all the best intentions in the world moving away from procrastination is a tough one. People, generally, have become accustomed to getting through the day and doing whatever it takes to make that happen. Going through the motions…

When you tell yourself you are going to do something different the mind goes into auto reject as if to say ‘What were you thinking? Who are you kidding? or ‘There’s real work to be done, get over yourself!’

This is you cheating you. Not doing the grand plan can always be blamed on more pressing tasks.

So how do you get past this hideous time-consuming creature? You block out time for the very things you want to do and accomplish and make it non-movable time (with the exception of high-level challenges that require your full attention).

You have to make a conscious decision to change; you have to do the work. There is no one on the planet that will do it for you! So once again you are at the door of taking responsibility and committing to the things that are important enough to you to have given them thought.

That book you wanted to write? That online Ebay shop you have got tons of stuff for; that new cookbook that you have been toying with using for over 2 months…  Make it happen!

You deserve to put energy and time into the things that are important to you; be sure they are important enough. Procrastination is yours for the killing; you just need to kill it!

Expel Procrastination

There’s the task, staring you in the face, begging to be done and you stare back and you suddenly think of something else you need to do; not as important but easier… oh dear, you’ve got the ‘P’ syndrome. Nip it in the bud! Break down the task into manageable pieces (planning) and press on. It won’t go away; it’ll just keep on nagging you for attention.

Ask yourself:

  • What is the task/thing I want to do/achieve?
  • Why am I avoiding it?
  • If I complete it, what else will I be able to do?
  • Am I ready to do it now?
  • Date started:
  • To finish by:
  • List bite-size steps to get you over the finishing line

Live Blissfully,
