The Great Excuse… "I Didn't Feel Like It"

When you think there is nothing left in the fuel tank, go one more round! I got up this morning and was due to go for a run (only 3 miles) but ‘didn’t feel like it’. How many times has that stopped you from doing something; how you feel? Then I asked myself a simple question – so what? Going for my run has nothing to do with what I feel like doing and more about doing what I want to do to get the health & fitness benefits I desire. What’s more important; the great excuse ‘I didn’t feel like it’ or my health? Easy win! Dressed, trainers on, headset in place and off I went. It was a slow start, I could feel the emotional resistance but I kept pushing until eventually, one mile in, it felt comfortable. I had pushed through the barrier and was now entering ‘happy’ land. You see, there was no valid reason for me not to run, it was just a ‘feeling’. By simply questioning the feeling and its validity…

Health & Fitness… It's A Lifestyle

Being Fit & Healthy Quote For The Day: “Getting fit and changing your eating habits are not ‘quick fixes’ for a holiday, wedding or a special birthday event; health & fitness is a lifestyle, a commitment, it’s for life…” One life, live it well! Live Blissfully, YvonneB

The Great Escape!

Finally, we have some sunshine here in the UK! Now it’s time to perform the great escape out of your home and into nature to get fit and increase your wellbeing. In truth getting outdoors is a good thing in any season but summer makes it a lot easier (unless you hate the heat of…

Mind Your Language!

It only takes one poorly phrased comment on someone’s weight (‘don’t eat so much, you’re putting on weight’, etc) to affect their self-image and feelings around food for years to come. A number of studies carried out have captured the impact of unhelpful language when referring to weight, in particular, that of the parent’s to their daughters. In one retrospective…

8 Ways To Manage Mindless Eating

Questions: Do you notice when you are eating? I mean consciously notice? If you had to fill in a food diary at the end of the day how accurate would it be? If you ever watched Secret Eater’s you would have seen how delusional people were about the food they ate daily) What I have…

Sugar, Sugar

If cutting sugar out of your daily diet was easy, I’m sure we would all have done it by now. Decreasing sugar intake takes some effort. There are obvious changes you can make like not buying bags of processed sugar, however, even when you do that you are likely to seek out a replacement. For example, I…

Obesity: Ignorance Is Not Bliss; It Is Ignorance

Ignoring obesity won’t make it go away. It’s here, it’s real and it needs attention from all of us. And contrary to popular belief, obesity hasn’t manifested purely out of people overeating. The environment in which we live has played an important role. Changing work schedules and the 24-hour availability of food has certainly impacted the choices…

The Battle For Healthier Lifestyles

I’ve been a lifelong fitness fan… fortunately. That said my eating habits have, over the years, been more ‘miss’ than ‘hit’. I had a mindset that said ‘as long as I work out I can eat anything’. And that made perfectly good sense to me. I looked fit and healthy, so all must be well, right? Wrong!…

I’ve Got Chills They’re Multiplying… Feed Your Cold

Anyone old enough to remember Grease will recognise the first half of that title (oh, how I loved that film!) but I’m taking a whole other approach with it! Here in the UK winter is settling in nicely (thank you) and it is the time of year when colds, flu and all such nasty niggly viruses…
